after your plastic surgery

After Your Surgery with Dr. Mayfield

Dr. Mayfield believes that at no time during the surgeon-patient relationship is a close personal bond and strong working relationship more important than during the time you are recuperating from your surgery. In some plastic surgery practices, staff members (other than the doctor) remove sutures, change dressings, and manage important phases of your surgical recovery. Not in our plastic surgery practice! Dr. Mayfield believes that this is a crucial time - a time when you need and deserve his personal attention. Dr. Mayfield, whose focus on personalized care and attention to detail is uncompromising, feels very strongly about providing this care himself.

You should expect a call from Dr. Mayfield the evening of your surgery to answer any questions you or your family may have, and to make sure everything is going well. The day following your procedure the doctor or our registered nurse will call from our office to check on you once again. We want to know that you are comfortable, that you understand all the instructions, and that you are easily able to follow them. We also want to be certain that all of your questions are answered.

Your first postoperative visit to our West Chester office is planned within the first few days to check the healing process, change any necessary dressings, and to take out sutures that may be removed early. After this initial check, follow-up appointments in are appropriately spaced to remove the last of the sutures and to be sure that healing is progressing as expected. Dr. Mayfield wants to be sure that your post-surgical needs are being met to the fullest.

Some individuals experience postoperative emotional swings. It is not unusual to feel excited one day and then let down the next; to be thrilled thinking about the anticipated improvements one moment, but then later question whether you should have done this at all. Although not everyone experiences these ups and downs, Dr. Mayfield and his staff recognize and understand these natural mood swings. They are always available to offer the necessary support should you experience any of these feelings.

The healing process progresses rapidly during the first few weeks postoperatively, but actually continues for many months following surgery. Dr. Mayfield and his staff continue to be available for you during this entire period. Late complementary postoperative visits at three months, six months, and one year following cosmetic plastic surgery procedures are the standard in our plastic surgery practice. Of course, should you ever have any questions or concerns about your progress at any time following surgery, you may call our office to arrange a visit with Dr. Mayfield.

Many of the unsolicited testimonials received from patients are a direct result of the personal, professional, and caring support offered by Dr. Mayfield and his staff during the very important post-surgical period.
